The meadows at Big Creek Homestead are old cropland and pasture that were abandoned for those purposes several decades ago. Some of the former farm land has reverted to woodland, some is in the process of doing so, and some is being maintained as meadow or savannah by mowing or cutting. Meadows add to the diversity of flora and fauna on the homestead and provide areas for recreational activities not suited to woodlands.
All the photos this gallery were shot at Big Creek Homestead, the photographer’s home near Marquette in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
