In that they don't fly (except bats), mammals are easier to photograph than birds, but that makes them harder to find along with the fact that they tend to be nocturnal or crepuscular (active during dawn and dusk). Most mammals are permanent residents (as opposed to migratory) and this creates more opportunities to photograph them (except the hibernating ones). Compared to birds, mammals generally leave more signs of their presence such as tracks, scats, dens, and signs of feeding.
